Christmas

Had a great Christmas, even though I broke my favourite Christmas present (a Me to You dog bowl DW gave me).

The kids had a great time, TJ was counting down the sleeps and it's the first year he's really been old enough to know what's going on. KK didn't quite get it, and had lots of presents to open throughout the day as she got bored of opening them in the morning. WB got a few nice things, and spent six hours playing a computer game my Mum bought him. He did manage to brake his R/C helicopter ... twice! Luckily the shop took it back without a receipt ... twice. If it goes again, I ain't taking it back! I bought DW some ghd hair straighteners which she loves, and we got a load of Wii/3Ds games, DVDs and Blu-Rays that we wanted.

Sat in my Mum's house now just chilling after being round to see friends and whatnot ready for some New Year celebrations tonight. The two little ones wont make it, but WB is staying up until midnight - if he's good! We've got two carrier bags full of nibbles to munch on, and a few big bottles of pop.

So my friends, I bid you good night, and good year. See you soon!

WB

I want to do a post about each of my kids as they are today, and I'm going to start with WB.

WB is a science-mad fuzzball. He enjoys playing TF2, C&C Zero Hour and Plants vs Zombies. His favourite food is pizza, and hates potato (although will eat it if asked nicely). He's currently in year 5 of our local primary school and like most kids, doesn't like school. As far as I know he doesn't have any close friends at school, but he does have a best friend, Jordan, who is in year 8 of secondary school. They love to play C&C together, and to explore the woods near our house. We were surprised when Jordan went to secondary school that he still hung out with WB, but we're glad, because they get on well.

WB enjoys reading non-fiction books, but hates reading stories. He likes the Harry Potter films, Men in Black, The Simpsons & Futurama. He's interested in computers, and I think I may start teaching him some programming soon to see if that sparks his curiosity. He likes to go swimming, but can't actually do it properly, we really should get him into lessons! He's a member of our church's kids choir, and while he does enjoy it, he doesn't like giving up his own time to practice, or go to shows.

He knows exactly how to push DW's buttons, and he knows not to cross me. He loves his little brother and sister, and doesn't want us to buy a bigger house, because it would mean he'd have to stop sharing with TJ!

He's a good kid, can be a pain, but we love him dearly.

All Saints' Eve

Sooo tired, KK decided to wake up at 10:30 last night and not settle all night. Yay. DW drew the short straw and went up to her, and ended up pulling the sofa bed out in the computer room and tried to sleep with her in there. By 4:30am she'd had enough and we swapped over. No idea what's gotten in to her, she wasn't hot, or anything, just moany. At 7:10 WB came down thinking it was 8:10 because despite the clocks going back an hour on Saturday night, he still hasn't changed his. Sigh.

Now I'm at work, knackered, and really don't have the brain power to do much...

Had a fun day on Saturday, we went to look at some new houses with a real intention of buying, until we found out we'd need a deposit in excess of £11,000 and that ain't going to happen any time soon. Sigh. Saw a really nice house too... not perfect, but would definitely be good enough! Carry on renting for a while more then I guess, oh well.

I'm such a girl

It's been a while my friends, I know I know, but I've not been in a writing mood. I'm here now, and that's what counts, right?

Hmmm, so what's happened since the fifth? Well, on the sixth I took my lovely DW to Sheffield to see Mr Lee Evans and to do some shopping at Meadowhall to celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary. Amongst other things she bought for me I got wellies, jeans, a top, belts and underwear ... all from the ladies section, very nice. We got the Friends DVD boxset too, which we've been after for a while, so now I can finally stop recording it from the TV and rip the DVDs! The day after we went to Ikea to buy more stuff, and when we got home we bought a new mattress, quilt, pillows, and went to an NCT sale. I think we spent about £1,000 in all on the "weekend", money well-spent though, it was fun!

After that madness we had a quiet few weeks, DW bought some Westlife tickets and this week has been half-term for WB & TJ. On Wednesday night DW had some fun putting make-up on me and straightening my hair, so I did her hair in return, a nice high plait using half the hair, then joining the rest in a simple pony tail. Looked nicer than it sounds! Today I'm sat at work wearing pink everything, except my jumper, which is creamy/grey because it's Pink Day.

Hopefully this weekend we're going to buy a few bits for my bike (I need a bright light to get through the woods after work) and go to look at some houses with the hope that we can buy one soon-ish, fingers crossed!

"Speak" to you soon no doubt, and I'll have all the excitement of Halloween and Bonfire night to talk about. Hasta luego amigos!

PS. Snickers Almond: awesome.

Stupid people

How can people that are so stupid get so high up in companies? Answers on a postcard...

... and relaaax

Been a nice week and weekend really, after the "highs" of Monday, the week calmed down (I think the MD avoided me, which was nice) and the weekend was fun.

On Saturday we got the paddling pool out (yes, I am aware it is October) and the kids enjoyed a splash about in there... until Thomas poo'd in it anyway (yuck!). Was nice to just sit around doing very little for a change, not having to rush about visiting people or having to go shopping. I took a few photos, and realised that our camera sounds like it's on it's way out. Oh dear. Decided that it may be best to buy a new one ready for Thursday (Lee Evans!!) so got my Google Goggles out and have a little hunt on-line for a good one. In the evening me & WB had pizza, and DW had a Chinese while we watched the last episode of Doctor Who season 6. Afterwards me & DW watched Confidential and they showed River's life in order from her point of view, rather than from the Doctors, which was a very interesting thing to see! After that we played Swamp Fever on Left 4 Dead 2, completing it in about an hour, but a Tank killed DW just as rescue arrived... what a shame!!!

On Sunday we went to the Army, and afterwards took the little ones into town as WB was at an all-day practice. We went in to Jessops and I bought a new camera - the Canon SX210 IS. I'm not 100% happy with it, and may take it back as the images are too noisy for my liking, and the "HD" video mode may have the resolution, but it definitely doesn't have the quality. We also went to Pizza Hut and they were waaaaaaaay under-staffed for the amount of people in the restaurant. Service was appalling, but I had nothing but sympathy for the three waitresses running around trying their best. When we got home I changed the light fitting in the kitchen from a stupid energy-hungry fancy thing, to a simple hang-down one I could put an 11W bulb in, looks ugly, but will save us quite a bit of money! In the evening I played with my camera a bit and did one mission on Red Alert 3 with a friend to make sure everything worked before our first weekly game tonight.

And that just about brings you up-to-date. Enjoy your day!

P*ssed off.

For f*cks sake, how hard is it to pay someone the right amount of money?

Two months in a row now I've been under-paid, and it's ridiculous. All they have to do is log into on-line banking and update a payment! It takes, what, 3 minutes? Oh, but no! According to the MD it's not being underpaid, it's being paid in two parts ... so that's how it's going to work from now on is it? I get my old pay on the 26th, which is the day our pay gets transferred (I've been told this on multiple occasions) and the rest days later because "salaries are supposed to be paid on the last day of the month". Whatever.

It's completely unprofessional, and to fix it all they'd have to do is say "Sorry, I made a mistake, I'll make sure it's sorted for next month, and you'll have the rest of this months before the end of the week".

Also, in the last 12 months, I've had one pay slip. ONE! Oh, but that's OK, because my P60 covers all of them from October to March! Doesn't matter that I might need April to Septembers, or a years worth for a mortgage application, or something ...

Not happy.

Raggy Dolls

Raggy dolls, raggy dolls, dolls like you and me ... Ahh memories!

It was a very close friend of mine's 30th birthday on Monday, and on Friday we're going out on the town in fancy dress. I've decided to go as Lucy from Raggy Dolls (I have long hair, so going as a girl actually makes sense ... the fact I enjoy wearing skirts and bits is neither here nor there!) and DW is going as Dot. She's on the look-out today for a nice dungaree dress and white & green socks for me, and pink dungarees for her. Hopefully she'll pick up some yellow ribbon for our hair too :o)

In other news, it's been a nice week. Work has been relatively quiet (but one of the MDs is due back in the office today, so all hell could break loose), choir practice was nice last night - out leader was back in action after having a operation on his foot a few months ago, and I forgot how cruel he can be (in a good way)! I completed Yuri's revenge recently, and since WB's birthday he seems to have lost interest in playing Red Alert 2, he's playing TFC and Plants vs Zombies instead. TJ is being a little pain in the bum, although nursery seems to be doing some good, even if it's just giving DW a few hours of peace with KK. Speaking of which, KK seems to be a bit clumsy lately, we wonder if she's getting an ear infection, time will tell.

Nothing else to report really, me & DW are into The Sims 2 again, what a black hole for time that game is! Tis fun though. I might give Red Alert 3 a go soon, I remember is being really annoying, so we'll see.

Right, I best get some work done, and a nice light blue dress bought for Friday seen as DW didn't have any luck in town. I shall write again soon.

Toodles!

Edit: Here's photos of us both in costume!

First Day

Just another quickie to say that I took TJ to his first day at nursery today. He really enjoyed it (didn't want to come home), and he'll be back again on Monday. Was nice to see him at "school", but he didn't really interact with the other kids, thought I'm sure that'll come with time :o)

Nine-Twelve

Well, yesterday was a big anniversary, but today is far more important to me - it's WB's birthday!!

Kitty Kitty

Been quite a boring couple of weeks, hence the lack of posting, but I can't be silent for ever.

So, on my very first night on my new job I got an out-of-hours support call. My first "day" on the job and I get a call, great. Turned out it wasn't that bad, and could wait until Monday - a "quick" restore of a database, a small code change and everything went swimmingly. Except that the girl who normally does first-line support was off all week, and so I had not only my new job to do, my old job to do and a graduate to train, but I have to answer the phones and do support too! Yay, what a fun week I had. Oh and the MDs wanted a release doing by Thursday too.

On the Saturday we went swimming at LA fitness (we hadn't been swimming since our holiday back in March) and the best part is it didn't cost us a penny. Got to love freebies.

Last weekend we went back to our home-town to see my half-brother before he went off to live in Sudan (he normally lives in Portugal, so I rarely see him at all) and I came back alone on Sunday, which was a weird drive home and evening all by myself. DW and the kids came back with my Mum on Monday.

On Tuesday night there was no choir practice, so I invited a friend over and we played Wii Party, ate pizza, and had lots of fun. Last night I played Red Alert 2 against WB and his friend, totally thwompped them both, hee hee. DW's also borrowed a bicycle trailer for the little ones to go in while her friend is away, so she can at least get out for a while while waiting to re-take her driving test (next Friday morning!). Shame on her first "real" trip the bike got a puncture, but hey, these things happen :o)

Right now I'm sat at work bored. Really bored. I've got a problem which I just cannot fathom, and I'm tempted to give up for now, and attack it again later. Actually, yes, that's exactly what I'll do. Time to move on.

In other news we're getting a cat tomorrow! A friend of DW had three cats and the girl gets "picked on" by the two boys, so DW wanted to "rescue" it. We used to have a cat called Gizmo, but he had to go after attacking TJ & WB, we gave him to a friend, but after a few days there he ran away and never came back. Our friend's friends have seen him around (he was a pretty unique cat) and he looks healthy and taken-care of, so at least he is safe and well.

So anyway, our new cat is call Tiger Lilly and she's about three years old. We've got to get some food, a bed, and something to keep her warm and dry outside when it rains, all things we really can't afford, but I've said yes now, so no going back.

No plans for this weekend other than WB going to a Harry potter-themed sleep-over at church on Saturday night, so hopefully we can just chill and do as little as possible.

OK, so maybe quite a bit has happened in the last two weeks, no so boring after all!

Driving

DW failed her driving test today :o(

Hit a kerb pulling out from a junction. Let's just hope she can get another test in before the summer holidays are over, chances are slim though :o(

Update: She's got a test booked for next Friday (26th)

Riots

The people participating in these riots are stupid, idiotic, un-educated morons.

That is all.

Adiamu

Friday, yay!

Friday, boo, it's my boss' last day at work. OK, yes, it means on Monday I start my new job, more money, more hassle, but I'd much rather he stay here. Ah well, things change, people move on. Time to grow up. Yeah right.

Joined the gym today! Well, kinda, got a free 3-day pass so I can use the pool with DW and the kids over the weekend, free swimming? Yes please!

Nothing much else to report, been a boring week at work, played Red Alert 2 with WB a few evenings this week, and will probably play Left 4 Dead with DW tonight!

Hopefully I'll have something a little more exciting to disclose next time, until then, adieu!

Pinch punch

Merry August! Or as Comedy Dave puts it; the Sunday of the summer.

KK woke up at 6:30 this morning but contented herself until just before 7, which was lovely! I took her downstairs and played Animal Crossing for a bit, picking up all the weeds and saying hi to the villagers. I'm now sat at work really really bored, I have work to do, but nothing inspiring and my mind is on other things: our family dog was put to sleep today.

Fudge has been with us for a long time, originally my brother-in-law's parents dog, she moved with him when they died and then to my sister when they got married. She eventually retired to my parents' house where she was a happy companion to my Dad on the daily walks to get the paper, and faithful leg-tripper-up to my Mum. She loved playing with her squeaky ball and chasing cats (even thought she used to live with two), walking around the woods, and nuzzling your hand with her nose if you ever dare stop stroking her.

She will be missed by us all, and far far beyond just my family.

I'll miss you x

Sunday roast

Just installing C&C: Generals onto my PC so I thought I'd pop by and say that we've had a nice weekend. Spent yesterday morning at home just chillin' in PJs until DW got back from work then I made omelettes for dinner. After that we all went into town and got a few bits & bobs (school uniform, dummies, picked up and Argos catalog) then dropped WB off at church for the night (they were having a murder mystery sleep-over).

This morning we welcomed our new leader at our church, and she seems really nice! The choir sang a beautiful song, and I really enjoyed singing it, but I'll miss practising it on Tuesday evenings. After having a Pizza Hut dinner (during which WB spilt all of his salad down himself (lol), and the service was unusually RUBBISH!) we nipped to Asda to see if they had any padding pools in the sale (we need a bigger one and it's another lovely sunny Sunday afternoon), but there was nothing as good as what we'd seen in town yesterday, so we'll go pick one up later in the week hopefully.

Well, C&C's finished installing, and DW wants me to watch the kids while she nips to the neighbours garage to borrow their lawnmower, so I shall bid you adieu.

Dashboards

Boy has work been stressy this week. One of the MDs just doesn't get that there are only so many hours in a day to do the things he wants, and that if he keeps shifting priorities then things will slip, crash and burn. *sigh* at least it's Friday, and I got paid yesterday, so a weekend of shopping to look forward to (I actually like shopping).

TJ had a really nice time at my parents' and cried when they left on Monday, but then, he always cries when they leave, bless. KK seems to be going from strength to strength standing on top of the slide (after climbing up by herself) holding on with one hand while waving at our neighbour! WB is on summer holidays now and is enjoying playing through Portal 2 with DW (both play single player at the same time).

DW is going slowly mad as per usual for the summer holidays, she doesn't like to be cooped up in the house, but can't go to SureStart with WB (he gets bored) and can't go anywhere fun as we can't really afford the bus fares. Still, she's got her driving test next month so if that goes well (and I've no reason to think it wont) then she'll have the freedom to go wherever for the rest of the holidays.

Right, best get back to work, those dashboards wont fix themselves ...

Paddling Pool

Had a really nice weekend, we didn't go to the castle, but went to the The Museum of Lincolnshire Life instead. That was fun, learnt about how tanks were invented (and got their name!) and saw re-creations of a Victorian school room (that was funny) and other ye olde shops and house-rooms. Afterwards we walked to Lincoln Cathedral and had a nice walk and look inside there, and KK even got her picture taken by some foreign tourists as she was being exceptionally cute! WB really enjoyed it, and on Sunday after church we just played in the garden in the paddling pool (even put the big slide into it - which both kids loved) and then went inside to chill (I taught WB how to play Red Alert 2, which he seems to love!)

TJ is due back today, Mum says they should be here mid-afternoon, so hopefully they'll hang around until I get home from work. Work's going OK today, done something which I thought would take me days to complete in just a few hours and that's really invigorating! The release didn't go well on Friday, but making up for it today, so here's hoping that the MDs will be happy! Now I just need to find out when I'm getting that promotion!!

The pub

So DW said to me yesterday that she's rather I be a werewolf than a vampire. Interesting, but that suits me just fine; I'm a furry, and vampires look ugly. Oh she's into Twilight if you hadn't guessed.

TJ is going to my parents this weekend, so that should be nice for everyone, WB wont have to share his room for a few days (time to crack out the Lego perhaps?) and KK wont get wound-up (as much). Might go out somewhere this weekend, somewhere WB would love, but TJ would find boring, a castle maybe, there's one not far from us.

Tonight I'm going to the pub after work for a few drinks (unusual for me - I don't drink) as my "line-manager" is leaving soon, and tomorrow I've got a release to build for testing this weekend ready to go live on Monday.  Work's OK atm, I've got my teeth into something vaguely interesting, so time is flying by :o)

That's all for now!

Tuesday, 19 July 2011

Hours

Work is boring me at the moment. We've just got a new guy start and new computers so I should be excited, but I'm in limbo about a promotion which has been promised, and I'm feeling really uninspired.

Home-life is pretty good, got new computers there too and it's fun to be able to play Left 4 Dead with DW and TF2 with WB, encode videos are more than 15FPS and finally play through Portal 2!!

The kids are being OK too, TJ is not taking to using the toilet very well, if he does a #2 in his pants, he'll take it out (with his bare hands) and flush it down the loo, but mostly does #1s in the loo (stood up!). KK has just learnt to walk, so that's cute, but it means she's no longer a baby and before I know it she'll be talking (already says the odd thing like "Dad", "Mum-um", "Bisc't") and giving us jip :o) WB is in his final week of year four, and breaks up for the summer on Friday, he's trying hard to get back in to our good-books after getting into big trouble a few weeks ago; he not only got grounded, but lost the TV in his room, can't watch any other TV without express permission and some other bits too. He's tried to be good since, and has only had a few minor slips (he's still far to cheeky to his Mum).

I could talk for hours, but I need to get back to work (and/or check Conquer Club) so for now, g'bye!

First things first

I ("JR") am currently a 29-year-old dad to three lovely Children;
"WB" is nine, he's not biologically mine, but his father is not interested, and when TJ was born I realised how much I love him, just like my own flesh and blood.
"TJ" is three, he's my double in pretty much every way. He learnt to walk at about the same age, looks like my twin and is pretty well behaved.
"KK" is our little girl, she's 15 months old and will be our last. She's no angel though, loves causing trouble and hates to be alone.

I'm also married, and have been with my darling wife ("DW") since WB was 2 years old, we got married in 2007 after I proposed without the ring that I'd bought months in advance.

So there you are, the five of us live in a pretty new three-bedroom rented house in sunny (haha) England, I doubt I'll post on here very often, but you never know. Hopefully I'll keep this up longer than I did my diary (that lasted about a year).

And kids, if you do ever read this, know that I love you all very much, and that if now we are apart, it's hurting me just as much as it does you, if not more. Your daddy loved you, and will always love you, until the end of time.

Pigtails and Pacifiers

I was researching about heartburn (as at this point in my life it's causing me issues) and I stumbled across a blog called Pigtails and Pacifiers and it's tag-line inspired me to do the same - create a blog to document my day-to-day activities as a dad to three lovely children.

This is for them to enjoy long after I am gone.
